art-display-corridors

The interior hallways of both levels of both Buildings A and B will be built extra wide in order to accommodate art gallery corridors. Both sides of each hallway will feature 12-18” deep glass cases varying in width from 8 feet to 15 feet that will be used to exhibit art created by artists from all over the world for month-long exhibitions. We anticipate the venue accommodating more than 800 linear feet of these art cases. Each art case will be accompanied by an interactive touch screen kiosk that will display the artist’s picture, a biography of the artist, a digital slide show of other work by the artist not currently displayed in the case, a directory of other art cases at THE MISSION featuring similar genres of art, and a button that can be used to summon the concierge in order to purchase any work of art within the case. Art patrons will be able to register with the concierge and receive an ID card that, when scanned, adds the patron’s name and contact information to the artist’s mailing list. A digital sound file will be activated once an art patron has been positioned in front of the touch screen for a certain period of time which will play the artist’s voice delivering its own 30-60 second elevator pitch so that the patron can experience what it would be like to be viewing the art right next to its actual creator. Additionally, software within the touch screen unit will be able to produce reports of how many patrons visited any particular case, at what time of day they visited and how long each patron spent viewing each case. All visitors to THE MISSION will be encouraged to check out each month’s hallway corridor exhibitions, which will also provide high visibility for each of the creative office studio tenants.

The art experience will also be a part of the open space pedestrian plazas on the west and north sides of Building B. Kiosks of varying sizes will display art in these open-air areas so that visitors to THE MISSION understand immediately that this venue is an art experience unto itself. Each outdoor kiosk will have wayfinding brochures available with floorplans of the current month’s art experience, which will communicate to the visitor that in fact this experience spans all three floors of both buildings in addition to the outdoor plaza areas.
